Is the forex market open right now, and what are its trading hours?
The short answer
Forex trades nearly around the clock, Sunday through Friday, from 5:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central time, according to CME Group. Listed FX futures also pause daily from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central time, which is 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. New York time.
The weekly schedule
According to CME Group, FX futures trade nearly around the clock, Sunday through Friday, from 5:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central time. CME Group also states that spreads can be traded 23 hours a day through the standard Globex trading hours of Sunday through Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. CT.
So the market is not open every day and not open all day, every day: it runs Sunday through Friday and pauses each day.
The daily break
CME Group states that listed FX futures have a 60-minute maintenance break each day from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central time, which is 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. New York time. During that hour, listed FX futures do not trade.
CME Group adds that most retail FX and CFD platforms continue to quote during that hour, but there is no listed FX price at all for roughly one hour.
Holidays
The sources here give NYSE holidays and early closes, not a full forex holiday calendar. CME Group's trading-hours page describes viewing holiday schedules by date and filtering by product, so this page does not state which forex holidays apply beyond that.
