Questions

How is FTMO's daily loss limit calculated?

On the FTMO 2-Step challenge the daily loss limit is 5% of the initial account balance, counted from the balance at the start of the day (midnight Prague time). On a $100,000 account you may lose at most $5,000 in a day, including open trades. FTMO 1-Step uses 3%.

What is the difference between static and trailing max drawdown?

A static max loss is a fixed floor under the initial balance (10% on FTMO 2-Step: equity may never go below $90,000 on a $100,000 account). A trailing max loss moves up with your highest balance, so profits raise the floor; FTMO 1-Step's floor trails at the end of each day.

When does the daily loss reset?

FTMO resets at midnight Prague time (CE(S)T), FundingPips at midnight UTC+3, FundedNext and The5ers at midnight of the broker's server time. In your MetaTrader that can be a different hour; this calculator and TradeWarden use each firm's own rule.

Can a tool stop me before I hit the limit?

TradeWarden, an Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5, watches these limits on every price tick and closes everything 10% before a limit (the buffer is adjustable). It can't act between two ticks or while MetaTrader is closed. See how it works.
