What the PPI is
The Producer Price Index measures the average change over time in the selling prices US producers receive for their output, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The BLS describes it as prices from the first commercial transaction for many products and some services.
The latest result, for September 2026, showed final demand prices up 6.3% from a year earlier, according to the BLS news release. The BLS says these indexes can be revised for up to four months after first publication.
