The short answer
SIFMA recommends full closes for U.S. dollar-denominated bond trading on Jan 1, Jan 19, Feb 16, Apr 3, May 25, Jun 19, Jul 3, Sep 7, Oct 12, Nov 11, Nov 26 and Dec 25, 2026. These are recommendations, not rules.
Full close days in 2026
SIFMA, the trade association that publishes the U.S. fixed income holiday schedule, recommends a full market close on twelve dates in 2026. The schedule covers U.S. dollar-denominated government securities, mortgage- and asset-backed securities, over-the-counter investment-grade and high-yield corporate bonds, municipal bonds, and secondary money market trading in bankers' acceptances, commercial paper, and Yankee and Euro certificates of deposit.
SIFMA states its recommended early and full market closes are recommendations only, and each member firm decides for itself whether its fixed income departments remain open for trading.
Early closes
SIFMA also lists early closes on six dates around the 2026 schedule: Dec 31, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Apr 3 at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and May 22, Jul 2, Nov 27 and Dec 24 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time. SIFMA notes early closes do not affect the closing time for settlements.
Stock market holidays are not the same
The New York Stock Exchange lists its own 2026 holidays, which include Good Friday on Apr 3 and Juneteenth on Jun 19, plus early closes on Nov 27 and Dec 24 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time, according to the NYSE and Nasdaq holiday calendars. The NYSE list does not include Columbus Day (Oct 12) or Veterans Day (Nov 11), which appear on the SIFMA fixed income schedule.
